The new Enterprise. The new movie one is at the top. A photoshoped version is bottom. (Unknown artist). The bottom one more represents the old ship. Why did they have to warp( (excuse the pun) it so? Which one would you like better?

Really all they needed to do is move the saucer and neck forward on the top one. I feel extending the engineering hull doesn't quite work with the design.

To be honest, the new version looks better. Even leaving aside that it's a photoshop, the version shown in the photoshop actually is not that good. The worst part to my eye is that it forces the sensor mount to be a structural member for both mounting the sensor AND connecting the primary hull to the secondary, which is Bad. There are a LOT of good reasons why the sensor mount is out ahead of where the primary structural members for the secondary hull probably are. One of those reasons is that the primary structural members carry vibrations, and sensors don't like vibrations. Mount a camera on your car's engine block, start it up, and try to take a picture. You will never take a good picture because the engine's vibrations will be carried through to the camera.

There is a lot of engineering that goes into making shock-absorbing mounts for radars in real warships.

Projecting the nacelle pylons further back is also not the best move, because it disconnects the hull convergence. There is a point where all the diagonal lines in a good starship design generally come together. If the convergence point is inside the secondary hull, and preferably on or close to the centerline of the secondary hull, that's where it should be and the design looks good. If the convergence point is outside the secondary hull, it tends to look not so good (this is why IMO the Excelsior is one of the weakest "hero starship" designs, because it has no actual convergence point).

Photoshop = weak.

I think the new (movie) Enterprise looks funny, especially with those nacelles. They completely messed up the engineering hull.

It's like they crossed the Enterprise with a '57 Cadillac, fins and all.

you know... the nacells, should (and i immagine they will be) lit up at the front, the ship is stationary in space in this pic, none of the ingines are probably online...

i like the new design.

The photoshoped version. With the saucer section moved forward, it just looks better. No only if they had made the engineering section a little more robust.

I have a pic like that. I'll post it. Look and tell me if you like. I didn't do it (I don't know the creator), but it is a good piece.
